Since 1987, Dance Precisions has been Orange County's premier destination for dance education. Now in our 38th season, we serve dancers ages 2–18 across a full spectrum of training — from our Little Dancin' Shoes program for our youngest movers, to recreational Academy classes, Performance Teams, and championship-winning Competition Teams.

Our 20,000 sq ft facility in Anaheim Hills features six spacious studios with professional-grade sprung floors, and we offer classes in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Lyrical/Contemporary, K-Pop, and Tumbling. Our alumni have gone on to perform on Broadway, in film and television, and on tour with artists like Beyoncé, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift.

We believe time spent in the studio shapes more than dancers: it develops confident, creative, and capable young people. Our research-backed curriculum integrates technique, artistry, injury-prevention conditioning, and leadership development.

The Role

Our Mini and Junior competition dancers are the foundation of our long-term competitive success, and we're looking for a director who can take that responsibility seriously. The Mini / Jr Competitive Company Director leads our youngest competition dancers, owns their technical and artistic development, and represents our program at high-level regional and national competitions.

A typical week includes teaching company classes, setting and cleaning competition routines, running rehearsals, and traveling to competitions during the season. You'll work closely with the Studio Director on team programming, partner with our other faculty on dancer cross-training, and coordinate directly with parents on logistics, schedules, and expectations. This is a high-ownership role for someone with serious competitive chops who wants to build a Mini / Jr program that wins for the right reasons — real technique.

This position has growth potential and cross teaching opportunities with the teen and senior teams.

This role reports to the Studio Director.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the Mini / Jr competitive program — Own the artistic vision, training plan, and competition strategy for our Mini and Junior company teams. Set the standard for what our youngest competitive dancers learn, perform, and become.
• Choreograph and clean competition routines — Set original choreography (or commission and stage guest choreography) and run the cleaning process to competition-ready standards. Routines should win because they are technically sound and artistically compelling, not because they are flashy.
• Train technique alongside performance — Build technique into every rehearsal. Strong scores at high-level competitions come from dancers with real foundations, and the Mini / Jr years are when those foundations get set.
• Show up on time, every time — Arrive a minimum of 10 minutes prior to class start, prepared and ready to teach. When a conflict is unavoidable, you are responsible for securing a qualified substitute teacher in advance and getting them vetted and approved by studio leadership before the class.
• Communicate proactively with students, parents, and staff — Keep families informed about audition cycles, casting decisions, rehearsal schedules, costumes, competition logistics, and travel expectations. Respond to parent and front-desk inquiries promptly and professionally. Clear, consistent communication is non-negotiable.
• Lead the team through competition season — Travel with the team to regional and national competitions. Run warm-ups, manage backstage, give performance notes, and represent Dance Precisions to judges, other directors, and competitive peers.

Qualifications

Required

• Senior competitive coaching experience — Track record directing or assistant-directing competitive dance programs with placements and recognition at high-level regional and national competitions. Experience working specifically with Mini and Junior age dancers (roughly ages 6 to 12).
• Serious competitive chops grounded in technique — Strong choreographic voice, sharp eye for cleaning, and deep technical foundation across at least two of jazz, contemporary, lyrical, and hip hop. Comfortable making casting decisions, running tight rehearsals, and holding a competitive standard.
• Availability through competition season — Available weekday afternoons/evenings, weekends during competition season, and travel for regional and national events. Comfortable working directly with parents and managing the emotional intensity that comes with competitive dance families.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Must pass a background check (required for all staff working with minors).

Preferred (Nice to Have)

• Personal background as a competitive dancer or professional performer.
• Experience choreographing routines that have placed at major nationals (Industry, NUVO, JUMP, The Dance Awards, NYCDA, or similar).

Compensation: Hourly, commensurate with experience.
